Facing a critical shortage of physicians and an increasingly competitive recruitment marketplace, Interior Health needed a physician recruitment marketing strategy that would capture doctors' attention and entice them to consider a move to BC's sunny Southern Interior.
Our research showed doctors cared more about lifestyle than compensation or work environment - and that like the rest of us, they usually began their job searches online. Interior Health communities boast some of the best lifestyle advantages anywhere and so we proposed the brand "Better Here" to help each community showcase their exceptional opportunities through traditional and online media, as well as a dedicated physician recruitment website www.betterhere.ca

In the first 6 months, "Better Here" marketing generated 440 physician inquiries resulting in 70 new hires at an investment of less than what it previously cost to recruit only 3 physicians through traditional headhunters. In a news release issued by the Province of British Columbia, the Minister of Health congratulated Interior Health on its physician recruitment leadership and success.
The results for our team were equally satisfying. This strategy was judged to be "best in the business" by communication industry experts - receiving three International Association of Business Communicators 2009 Gold Quill Awards, and a Canadian Public Relations Society 2009 Award of Excellence.
