Our "PR 101" workshop was first developed to train Parks Canada Wardens and Guides to understand and contribute to Parks Canada's PR objectives. This program approaches PR as "Planned Relationships” and is now delivered to many organizations in the public and private sector empowering these organizations and their employees to maximize the power of PR in strengthening their relationships with key stakeholders.
Public relations is about how organizations and their stakeholders understand and work with each other.
Many organizations believe public relations is synonymous with publicity. Publicity (also known as media relations) occupies a well-known niche within the practice of PR. As it should. It is often a powerful tool for building awareness and understanding of an organization.
That said, almost any activity that builds relationships critical to your organizational goals can be considered public relations. Consider how your relationship with your key stakeholders are inter-related. This is the reason that public relations, as a profession, is the application of numerous integrated communication efforts.
